And I understand you tin teach me and the rest of the group a object alternatively two whether you want to.
Described at some as 'Happiness 101'.
By the direction, I'm no being fussy of the agenda, it's presentation into schools or the notion of exploring assured psychology... I suspect it's fair a weird (yet insightful) annotation on where we are at as a society when we have to take classes (at academy level not less) on how to be merry.
Hi Guys.
An interactive chat.
I've had fun so far... went on a couple of radio stations, spent hours in the studio and had an amusing on-air conversation with the rule of a quite rich, high-profile school here in Australia which is about to begin education 'positive psychology' as an integral portion of it's curriculum in 2008.
Hope you're enjoying (or enjoyed) your weekend.
The interesting discussion with Mr School Principle got the cogs in my small but strange brain turning.
Is it
It's probably the ONE topic which is of global interest.
Watch your step,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], you may voyage aboard my lampoon.
Can it be learned?
More educated about depression maybe.
Or a mindset?
A group reconnaissance.
We're losing (or have lost) the skill.
Maybe we should just send our kids as a semester of 'Life 101' on the island of Espiritu Santo with my islander sibling, McKenzie (his 1st appoint).
Maybe we're just extra conscious now.
I was astounded to read that depression is now ten times more universal than it was fifty years antecedent... dunno about that stat... but that's what was reported in this article.
Like most, I'm still exploring it... which is why I have chosen to make it just that; a discussion.
In a way, the self-ish verses self-less argue.
Wonder who taught them?
But the million dollar answer has to be... what namely pleasure?
Is happiness a skill?
This subject is now taught in numerous colleges and graduate schools around the US (over 200) and has been largely driven (championed is perhaps a better word) by a US psychologist named Dr. Marty Seligman. I've read a little of what the nice Doc says (it all seems reasonable) and, as I said, spoke to the school principle who is spending sixteen million dollars (that's some school) on a 'wellness centre' for his students (which will combine the positive psychology stuff).
I'll open the gate on it and you guys can come in and chat.
In the magazine article, the approximation was made between feeling good (chasing or partaking in something which makes us feel good for a when - edible,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], drugs, sex, a new clothe) and doing good (assisting others, being generous with our time, money, skills)... and which might provide us with a greater level of long-term and overall happiness.
Probably did that positive psychology lesson by correspondence.
I have some prodigious memories of costing time on a tiny Island in Vanuatu phoned Espiritu Santo a few annuals back, where I made some magnificent friends who taught me all about authentic happiness.
No electricity,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], no TV, no radio, little money, no bank lots of fun, lots of laughs, lots of adore, an antique guitar with four strings and lots of happiness.
A way of being perhaps?
I would favor to know your thoughts and emotions on the subject because I'm sure you're gonna have some and it's relevant to every human on the planet.
* Before I start, let me mention that I don't have the definitive reply to this dispute (or whichever); I don't think there is 1 when it comes to this topic.
Apparently, it's immediately someone we need apt instruct.
It seems namely (along to the story anyhow) despite all our matter (resources, technology, money, education, toys) we're no happier... in truth overall, probably less happy.
Hmm.
They weren't trying to teach me everything... but they did.
In a recent magazine article here in Australia (Good Weekend Magazine) the 'science' of happiness was explored (this was the catalyst for the radio interview).
